"Patty" se inició en el Programa Equino de la Universidad Estatal de Utah. En este programa, a cada caballo se le enseñan habilidades básicas de trabajo en el terreno, como atar, acicalar, liderar, levantar pies, lanzarse y trabajar en un corral redondo. Se les enseña a cargar / descargar en un remolque, y representan al herrador y al veterinario. También están entrenados para ser bañados, recortados y cubiertos. Bajo la silla de montar, a los potros se les enseña el control básico del cuerpo en la caminata, trote y pendiente. A lo largo del semestre, los potros son introducidos a una variedad de entornos, como arenas de equitación interiores / exteriores, montados sobre troncos y puentes y cruzando agua.
Patty tiene aproximadamente 45 días bajo la silla de montar. Ella es muy atlética y podría sobresalir en una variedad de disciplinas. Patty es una portadora de HERDA y también una portadora de GBED. Como destetada, Patty tuvo una lesión traumática muy focal en la cara dorsal de la región del cañón trasero derecho. Había una herida en la piel con hinchazón firme y dolor a la palpación. Las radiografías tomadas el 6/22/18 indicaron que tenía un secuestro en el hueso justo debajo de la superficie de la herida. Un secuestro ocurre cuando un hueso se magulla y / o hay una microfractura que interrumpe el suministro de sangre a esa región del hueso. El tratamiento para un secuestro es el desbridamiento quirúrgico y el pronóstico para la recuperación es excelente en ausencia de complicaciones postquirúrgicas. Patty se sometió a una cirugía el 7/5/18 para eliminar el secuestro. El procedimiento y la recuperación fueron sin incidentes y exitosos. Posteriormente se realizaron varios estudios radiográficos repetidos para controlar su progreso de curación. Estamos informando esta historia en Patty para explicar el bulto que es visible en su pata trasera derecha en el sitio de la lesión / cirugía anterior. Estos tejidos se curan y la evidencia restante es una "mancha" permanente. Una "mancha" es una anomalía visual que no limita la función de los caballos y no se asocia con dolor o cojera.

On the same spring day of 1917 that Man o’ War was foaled in Kentucky, another chestnut colt was foaled in South Texas named Zantanon.
“You have got to have speedy bloodlines on both the top and bottom parent line to breed speedy horses,” Ott Adams told The Quarter Horse magazine published by the National Quarter Horse Breeders’ Association in 1948.
Adams bought Little Joe for $1,000 in 1913, when horses more commonly sold for $50, and him on his mare Jeanette by Billy By Big Jim to produce Zantanon. He sold the colt as a long weanling to Erasmo Flores of Nuevo Laredo.
Flores put the colt into race training and later sold the colt to his uncle, Eutiquio Flores, who continued racing him. He was able to purchase buildings and a ranch from Zantanon’s winnings. The stallion earned himself the nickname “The Man o’ War of Mexico.”
Manuel Benavides Volpe, who was impressed with the stallion, bought the then 14-year-old horse for $500 when Eutiquio Flores died in 1931.
“I always wanted Zantanon because I believed he was the best horse I had ever seen,” Volpe was reported as saying in The Quarter Horse magazine in 1947 and in the Ranchman magazine in 1947. “So far as I knew, he never ran a race on a square meal during his racing career. This was surely true, for usually he was skin and bones and was rough looking.”
“I’ve often wondered just what records old Zantanon would have made, had he been run under favorable conditions,” Volpe said. “I sincerely doubt that there is a living horse today that could outrun old Zantanon 300 yards.”
Zantanon died in 1941, and AQHA records only 46 foals he sired, but among those 46 are San Siemon, Ed Echols and King P-234, horses that live up to the breeding Ott Adams described.
Today, 22 of the horses currently enshrined in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame trace to him. With the induction of Parker’s Trouble in the class of 2016, that number rises to 23 Hall of Famers, a fitting legacy for the Man o’ War of Mexico.
Zantanon was inducted into the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2016.

Doc O`Lena was foaled in 1967, the offspring of Doc Bar and Poco Lena. He is one of only two horses in the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame with both parents also inductees. He was bred & owned by Dr. and Mrs. Stephen F. Jensen of Paicines, California at the time of registration. The Jensens hoped to sell Doc O`Lena while still a yearling to Don Dodge, who had trained the colt`s dam, Poco Lena, but Dodge thought the colt was too small to train as a cutting horse. So instead, the Jensens decided to keep the colt and have Shorty Freeman come look at him to see if Freeman wanted to train the colt. However Freeman did not have an auspicious beginning, as the first time Freeman tried to ride the green broke yearling, Doc O`Lena ran away. However, Freeman decided to take Doc O`Lena on, and said of the horse: “I didn`t train Doc O`Lena anyway, he trained himself. I knew about 30 days after I got him that he was an exceptional horse... I always had to ride him last in the training program, `cause if I didn`t, I`d be mad at all the other horses in the barn. He was just that good.” Mr. Freeman talked one of his clients into going into partnership with him and buying Doc O`Lena from the Jensens in April 1970 for $15,000. That December, Doc O`Lena was NCHA Futurity Champion, winning $17,357 for his new owners. In all, Doc O`Lena earned $21,991.93 in NCHA earnings, along with an NCHA Certificate of Ability. Among Doc O`Lena`s offspring were Doc Athena, Sugar Olena, Lenas Peppy, Smart Little Lena, and Todaysmyluckyday. His son Montana Doc is a member of the NCHA Hall of Fame. Doc O`Lena was the first NCHA Futurity winner to sire a Futurity winner when Lenaette won the Futurity in 1975. His son Smart Little Lena was the first winner of the NCHA triple crown. And in 1978, Doc O`Lena himself was syndicated for $2.1 million, at that time a record for the cutting horse industry. Doc O`Lena was inducted into the AQHA Hall of Fame.
